Enver Tanriverdi uses Plugwise in his domotica home to get energy comsumption insights on appliance level.

In the third part of this week's episode of VARA's Weet wat je koopt (Be conscious of what you buy) is being explained how to obtain insight in your energy consumption on appliance level with Plugwise, even without using the smart meter and already as of today!

On Tuesday 8 September the Reactor Institute Delft will start installing Plugwise, a system of electricity saving plugs, in office spaces. The plugs measure the amount of electricity used by appliances such as computers and lighting, used in offices. In addition, the system can switch off appliances from a central location in order to prevent unnecessary electricity consumption.

For the moment, Plugwise will only measure electricity use. At the end of September a decision will be taken as to whether the ‘switch function’ can be applied without consequences for normal work activities. The Plugwise experiment was initiated by the department of Facility Management and Real Estate and by the Delft Energy Initiative. It fits the ambition of the university to realise a sustainable campus.

Welcome to Plugwise

Plugwise, a Dutch company, developing energy management systems since 2006, is proud of its unique invention: a wireless energy management system allowing domestic and commercial users to gain detailed understanding of their energy consumption where they see it: at the plug on the wall.  The objective is to realize substantial energy savings.  Saving 10% to 40% of your electric energy consumption is possible with the Plugwise plug network system.

In addition to the savings the system dramatically increases your living and working comfort contributing to sustainable solutions for the global energy shortage.
