Job Title: Front-End Developer / Systems Programmer

Location: Sassenheim, The Netherlands.

Plugwise, a B2C consumer electronics company that makes smart products to help customers save energy, seeks an experienced Front-End Developer and/or Systems Programmer.

Job Description:

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the front-end user interface and working on the central gateway that connects all our devices. We are looking for a developer with a broad interest in different programming languages and a willingness to learn new ones, as you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of technologies. You will be the main developer for the front-end and gateway and will be supported by our system architect.

The front-end you will work on is a webview-based UI, and forms the way users interact with Plugwise’s ecosystem of smart heating, smart metering and energy management devices. The Gateway you will work on is the brains of Plugwise’s solutions, and contains our business logic and smart algorithms. To effectively develop both Gateway and UI, you will combine a user-first UI perspective with well-designed algorithms and well-tested integrations.

What will you do?:

• Develop and maintain the Plugwise UI, which runs in the browser and in webviews on iPhone and Android, using React and JS.
• Develop and maintain the Plugwise Gateway, which runs on Linux (OpenWRT), using Lua and some C.
• Collaborate within a cross-functional team to define, design, build, test and ship new features.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code that is maintainable and scalable.
• Troubleshoot and debug issues as they arise.

What do we expect?

• Experience in software development, with a strong background in front-end development.
• A broad interest in different programming languages and a willingness to learn new ones.
• Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Experience with React or similar frameworks is a plus.
• Experience with development on Linux is a strong plus.
• Experience with OpenWRT or buildroot is a strong plus.
• Experience with Lua or C is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Fluent in English. Conversational Dutch is a plus.
